Dana saw the figure standing by the edge of the creek and the steady stream it was pissing into the water. She was about to shoot Henry in the back when she realized the sound of her shots would carry to the house. She smiled when she thought about shooting Henry with his own silenced gun.

“When you’re through holding your dick, I want you to toss me your weapon. Sorry, kid, but I don’t need a partner.” Nothing changed. The steady stream continued and the figure never so much as twitched. Dana spoke louder. “Hey, kid, are you deaf or something?”

Still no reaction, but then she heard a sound like someone clapping as agony erupted in her right side. The pain left her weak, and Dana fell, to roll down the hill. She came to rest near the stream and looked up at “Henry.”

It wasn’t Henry. It was a collection of tree branches that had been tied together and stuck in the soft ground near the stream’s bank. They were covered with a pair of jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. The sweatshirt was a dark blue color, and not the black one Henry had been wearing. There were also no shoes. Henry assumed no one would notice from a distance, and he’d been right.

The figure stopped “urinating” as the water in the quart bottle attached to it finished dripping out of the hole Henry had made with a knife. He walked over to stare down at Dana.

Dana wasn’t doing well. Two of the three bullets Henry had fired at her had found their mark. One had ripped apart her right breast to enter a lung, the other had left an exit hole after passing through her liver and stomach and breaking a rib.

Dana lay on her back, gasping for a breath, her face twisted from the agony of her wounds. Henry fired a bullet into her brain to end the misery. Afterward, he stared down at her. She was the first woman he had killed.

It was her choice to die. He would have been willing to share any money they found, but not for one moment had he believed her when she said she would.

After sighing, Henry dragged Dana’s body into the woods and dropped it into the hole he had dug for it earlier. At that time, he’d thought he’d be dealing with a man.

It had bothered him to kill a woman, but not enough to be foolish and let her live. Had he shown mercy, Dana would have eventually repaid him with treachery.

Henry filled in the grave, dismantled his stick man, and walked back up to the house. He arrived in time to see Lauren driving away.

Henry dropped the clothing he’d been carrying and ran full-out back to the spot where he’d hidden his van. Wherever Lauren was headed, there was a chance she was going there to find Mickey. Henry moved aside the branches he’d used to conceal his vehicle and climbed inside to start the motor. He had the van moving an instant later but reminded himself to not drive too fast.
